Anthony F. Souza, CRE,
FRICS, President
Tony was born in 1940 in Tracy. He attended Tracy area grammar schools and, in 1958, graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory. In 1962, Tony graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce.
In 1962, Tony moved
back to Tracy and began
managing the family
cattle operation. 1968
brought the opening of
Souza's Quality Meats, a
wholesale meat purveying
operation, which Tony
owned until 1984.
In the late 1970s Tony began working on leases of Altamont pasture lands for wind turbine development. In 1984, he earned his broker's license and opened Souza Realty. In 1991, the name of the company was changed to Souza Realty & Development.
Tony has been and continues to be very active in community activities. He was chairman of the Development Council of Tracy Community Memorial Hospital, and has led the formation of the Tracy Community Memorial Hospital Foundation, acting as the first Chairman of its Board of Directors. Tony is past chairman of the Hospital's Special Prospects Committee, and still serves on that committee. He served as President of the Tracy Rotary Club in 1989-90, and also served as the chairman of the Tracy Tomorrow Growth Task Force. Tony is active in St. Bernard's Catholic Church where he served as chairman of the Future Planning & Development Committee.
Tony served on the Planning Congress for Contra Costa County that extensively studied and debated the county's general plan revision. He has also served on the county's Agricultural Task Force, and the South East Contra Costa County Advisory Committee, an advisory committee to the Board of Supervisors on land use matters. In the community of Tracy he has served as Chairman of the 1989 Tracy Tomorrow Growth Committee, served in the 2001 Tracy Tomorrow Transportation Committee and was appointed by the Tracy City Council to serve on the Tracy Tomorrow and Beyond Committee.
Tony is a member of many professional associations, including the Tracy Chamber of Commerce, Central Valley Association of REALTORS, California and National Association of REALTORS, National Association of REALTORS Real Estate Appraisal Section, American Wind Energy Association, Urban Land Institute, Building Industry Association of the Delta, and the Business Council of San Joaquin County.
In 1994, Tony was awarded the CRE
(Counselors of Real
Estate) designation by
the Counselors of Real
Estate, an international
group of recognized
professionals who
provide expert,
objective real estate
advice on real property
and land-related
matters. In 1999, he was
elected to the board of
directors of the
Counselors of Real
Estate and served as
Chairman of the Northern
California Chapter.
He
has been active in the
leadership of the
organization since that
time, most recently as
2007 Chairman of the
Board. In addition to
the Counselors of Real
Estate, Tony also holds
the prestigious
designation of Fellow,
Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors (FRICS).
Tony oversees all our operations at Souza Realty & Development. As a real estate consultant, he is engaged in litigation support analyzing impacts of condemnation activities on property and providing testimony as an expert witness in condemnation cases and other legal proceedings.
